Alpaca Fibre Wool
Alpaca Shop at Hensting Alpacas
Hensting Alpacas Wool is a lovely yarn spun from 100% alpaca. The alpaca fibre is untreated, which means it is not exposed to any treatment or dyeing which makes it incredibly soft, This highlights the fibre’s natural properties, while also providing better shape and texture quality. Hensting Alpaca fibre is spun from 4 strands to provide a durable surface, and is available in three colours, from Thorn to Brown and a rare natural Grey.
Garments made from Hensting Alpaca fibre are lightweight and comfortable, feel super soft on the skin, and have a characteristic gentle sheen and handle
As one of the newest stockists of Alpaca yarn in the UKA bit about Alpaca fleece is the natural fibre harvested from our very own alpaca. It is light or heavy, depending on how it is spun. It is a soft, durable, luxurious and silky natural fibre. While like sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and has no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca is naturally water-repellent and difficult to ignite (yes you can’t set fire to an alpaca!). Our alpacas are the Huacaya, an alpaca that grows soft spongy fibre, has natural crimp, thus making a naturally elastic yarn well-suited for knitting. Alpaca fleece is made into various products, from very simple and inexpensive garments made by the indigenous communities of Peru and Chilly to sophisticated, industrially made and expensive products such as suits. In the United States, the preparing, carding, spinning, weaving and finishing process of alpaca is very similar to the process used for wool and we use a company called 2 Rivers Mill in Dorchester.
